In the pattern-making process, a resist paste (bosen-nori) is applied to create areas that will take the dye and areas that will not.
Dyes are then poured using a special tool and absorbed using a compressor during the dyeing process.
At Tenu-Kuri Dye Studio, we enjoy a friendly and relaxed atmosphere with our customers while dyeing. Please come and experience the excitement of completing your very own unique creation!

Company IntroductionSince our founding in 1889, we have remained committed to narrow-width cotton fabric and “wazarashi” (traditional bleached cotton). Through the ages, we have connected with customers through various products such as “sarashi” (bleached cotton), “yukata,” “tenugui,” “hanten” (traditional jackets), “yarn-dyed fabrics,” and “solid-color dyeing.” In addition to our ready-to-ship system for narrow-width cotton fabrics, we offer one-stop solutions for diverse original production needs, catering to professionals and individuals alike. We also host a permanent “Tenugui Dyeing Workshop.” We support the creative activities and product sales of creators.
Our company has the unique ability to respond to various claims cultivated over many years in the bleaching industry, based on a deep understanding of each process, including Chusen dyeing. Furthermore, our “Tenugui Dyeing Workshop” (Tenu-Kuri Dye Studio) attracts tenugui fans from around the world who experience various surprises and joys. As a unique initiative, we are challenging ourselves to expand the possibilities of Tokyo Honzome Chusen dyeing by developing items such as “shirts,” “HAPPI (festival coats),” “stoles,” and “swaddles,” not limited solely to tenugui.
