Iseyasu Senkosho Limited Company

An aerial view of the factory. The upper left is the starching area (nori-oki), the center is the dye management station, and the “chuzen” dyeing tables are visible at the bottom.
The starching area (itaba), where resist paste is applied to the fabric using stencils on wooden frames and spatulas. Once the stenciling is complete, sawdust is sprinkled over the fabric, and it is left to sit until the paste sets.
At the dyeing table, “dikes” (clay barriers) are built on the fabric to prevent colors from bleeding. This is preparation for multi-color “sashiwake” dyeing. Since six different colors are being used, six pouring kettles are prepared.
The foreground shows the stand used for pouring dyes. Preparations are underway for the next step.
The washing process. After dyeing, the fabric bolts are rinsed with water, dehydrated, and then hung in the drying area.
Once dried, the width and length of the fabric are adjusted. It is then flattened with rollers and wound into bolts, a common finishing style for Yukata.
Our original New Year’s promotional tenugui towels. Although the “kinsai” (gold leaf/powder) application is not part of the chuzen process itself, it is performed here at our factory.
